About Me
My name is Iristela Rodriguez. I have been an individual and marriage counselor for over 16 years. I completed my undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, College Station, in 1997 and started working with substance abuse and addictions. My job was working with individuals and monthly family sessions where I got the opportunity to see how addictions was a generational disorder and also how it affected all members of the family. I worked at The Recovery Center for 2 years, obtained my LCDC (licensed chemical dependency counselor) and decided to return to school for my graduate studies at Antioch New England Graduate School in family therapy (graduated 2002).
Thanks to my work with addictions, internship, and post graduate work I was able to realize how important family is in molding individuals. I worked for two agencies in Massachusetts focusing on family therapy and children’s counseling. After my internship, I decided to work with individuals focusing on relationships, family dynamics, and attachment. I realized how symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, mood disorders, and most mental health disorders extend from missing pieces from family of origin experiences. We learn about attachment, relationships, behavior, values, beliefs and everything else from our family. Some have the fortune of growing up in a semi-stable household while others experience trauma, loss, lack of a secure attachment and many other things. During this time, I was able to grow personally by exploring my own family of origin dysfunction as well as help individuals, families and couples gain understanding and growth.
I believe that we all experience some sort of dysfunction growing up or in our lifetime and how we choose to process and manage its effects is what makes us different. Counseling serves that purpose to help individuals, children teenagers, couples and families learn coping skills to be able to manage and grow from personal experiences.
I provide a safe, comfortable, and compassionate environment for individuals, couples and families to explore sensitive areas and learn how to overcome obstacles. The pace of counseling is set by you, the client, the goals are set by you, the client, and I, as the clinician, will provide techniques, coping skills, and anything within my scope of practice to help you, the client, attain your goals.
Please review my resume if you would like more information on internship sites, past work experience or schooling.

Best Regards.
